faucet covers and door insulation are all items flying off the shelves in local stores. but with some of those purchases comes concern for safety. 3 upstate fire officials are urging homeowners to know how to properly use space heaters as well as other heat sources as the temps continue to drop. 3 3 fox carolina's rebecca atkins has been looking into this today and she also spoke with a store who is stocked up on all you could need this winter and rebecca what are they dealing with right now? 3 cody, today i went to the ace hardware on woodruff road, and they had customers in and out the entire time i was there. the store owner tells me in the past few days they have already seen an increase in space heater and faucet cover sales, and some people have already purchased sleds, he says they're that hopeful these temps will bring some snow. 3 3 3 3 space heater on shelf space heaters and fire wood are two items the owner of this ace hardware thinks customers will be clearing off the shelves as the chill in the air

gaffney park. park.k.the coroner identified the man as "howard talley." talley's body was found during a patrol of mccluney park on granite drive around 5-30 thi smorning.the coroner says he was lying on the pavement next to his car door...and that it appears talley had been there since late last night.we're told there were no signs of foul play...and the coroner says he doesn't believe the cold played a role in his death either.the coroner tell us it appears talley suffered a medical event before he was exposed to the cold weather.an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow to determine a cause of death. 3 a second former honea path police officer is locked up-- charged with misconduct in office this afternoon. afternoon.last week...we broke the news of robert shaw's arrest...and this afternoon...we've learned fellow officer john bell has also been charged. charged.both were fired last year after a man filed an excessive force complaint against them. honea path police chief david king said he fired the pair after receiving information from sled and meeting with the

manufacturer announced in february of 20-14 that it had selected property along highway 290 to build a new, high-performance carbon fiber production facility that will be a major supplier to the aerospace industry.toray is making a one-billion dollar investment in the plant...which is expected to create 500 new jobs! 3 3 3 this is one more time that south carolina has really put it's on the map because of the fact that not only do we build things we build them well and the investment of what is happening with made in america and d uth carolina is really something to be looked at at 3 toray is the world's largest producer of carbon fiber...which is used in products from golf clubs, to aircraft, to natural gas pressure vessels.the new plant is expected to begin producing yarn by may of 20-17...and is expected to procude carbon fiber for boeing...by 20-19. 3 still to come--changes to school lunches have been a hot topic over the past few years... years...now lawmakers are looking at how these higher

light snow showers mixed in. the best chance for upstate snow will be along i85 and north, and would happen between about 3-6pm. the moisture completely dries up by the evening, leaving just clouds. i don't expect any accumulations in the upstate, but the far north upstate mountains could see a dusting of snow.the next system will bring some light showers by late thursday, then heavy rain by friday to the upstate. we could see between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall, while the mountains would get rain and a mix through the day, the moisture would turn to snow friday evening in western nc. there could be several inches of snow into late friday night and early saturday morning. the rain will end in the upstate during friday evening, but some light moisture will remain that could produce some light snow showers as the cold air moves in. once again, no accumulations are expected at this time, but there is potential for some flakes flying friday night.skies will clear out by mid-morning on saturday, leaving sunshine for the weekend! 3 for weather 24 hours a day, log on to fox carolina dot com

the city's water source from lake huron to the notoriously dirty flint river.the water was switched back in october--but authorities say the damage was already done. the national guard continues to distribute clean water and filters throughout flint. 3 the search for 12 marines -- one of whom is from from woodruff--is back on today...after two helicopters collided off the coast of hawaii. hawaii.sergeant jeffrey sempler and 11 of his comrades disappeared after last thursday's crash near oahu. oahu.searchers combing the seas have now found all four life rafts deployed...but no one was on board.so far...there has been no indication that anyone survived.coast guard officials said they will consult with the marines to determine how much longer the search will continue. 3 new at four---- 3 a tragic story out of new jersey is making headlines across the country this afternoon.that's where a rescue squad membebedied of a heart attack after responding to a wreck that involved his 19-year-old daughter. daughter.officials say first responder "scott danielson" helped treat his daughter and

know to keep yourself safe on the roads, rebecca? 3 cody, usually you would think of snow on the roads to be a big concern for state troopers, but cold temperatures are just as important to them to notify drivers to be prepared. 3 a highway patrol state trooper tweeted today that with bitterly cold temps duriri your commute, dial hp for assistance and report stranded drivers, he also said to keep your phone fully charged. i spoke with corporal bill rhyne today and he says, not everyone has a cell phone to call for help. he says cars can break down or because of the cold, sometimes the engine won't start. he says people can easily get stranded and help. 3 3 "we've had a very mild winter up until this point, you don't know if there car is actually running, or of they could have a flat tire or something like that and the last thing that we want to happen, is for somebody to sit out there on the side of the interstate, especially or be out on any road with these types of temperatures." temperatures." 3 corporal rhyne says you should plan ahead, make sure your car
